Moving to a New State in 2021: 3 Tips to Smooth the Process
By Julie DeLong, A-1 Freeman Moving Group
In reality, it's a lot to deal with. Luckily, there are a number of steps you can take beforehand to make the move to Tulsa less anxious than it may be otherwise.
3 Ways to Ease the Process of a State-to-State Move
Though the process will never be entirely simple, these three steps may help reduce your tension.
Tip 1: When possible, handle your paperwork beforehand.
Moving always necessitates changing your permanent address. Important documents, websites, and service providers will all need to be contacted. Handling these steps beforehand will permit you to check this item off your schedule and concentrate more entirely on your new house when you get there.
If you move to a new state, however, you have the added task of procuring a new driver's license too. As with the change of address rules, most states have a required time period by which you should exchange your old license for a new one, so be certain that you confirm with your new state's DMV website to fully grasp the time period in which getting a new license will be a requirement.
Many states call for an in-person visit to the DMV, others let you to finish the complete process online. Taking care of this chore before yourmove will ease the transition and free up valuable settling-in time in your new state of residence—especially during the pandemic, when concerns of virus spread complicate even the simplest chores.
Tip 2: Pack with both short-term and long-term trips in mind.
In one sense, a state-to-state move is like a road trip and a move all grouped into one. Not only are you packing up all your worldly belongings for transportation, but you're in addition getting ready to spend at least a day or two road-tripping to reach your new place.
Before you get to the final chores of packing up, always make sure to take a moment to pack bags for yourself (and, if applicable, for your family) which will include everything you'll want for the following several days in route:
- Face masks and hand sanitizer
- Changes of clothes
- Toiletries
- Medications
- ID's and documentation
- Cash
Additionally do not forget about your pets! Double check that they have several days' worth of supplies packed up also.
Tip 3: Select an experienced interstate moving company in Tulsa.
All moving companies have specialties. While some are experts in local relocations, others have created systems and structures to support interstate and cross-country moves. If talking to possible moving companies in Tulsa, always be sure to ask thoughtful questions concerning their abilities and areas of expertise. Be sure to look at consumer reviews, call friends and contacts and take their suggestions into consideration.
While it can be tempting just to select the cheapest offer you find after a fast Google search, we've all been around long enough to know that the most affordable quote isn't always the greatest choice in the long run. If you're facing the stress of an interstate move, particularly over an ongoing pandemic, you'll want to know you are in capable hands the whole way.
